MIRRIX LOOMS' WEEK 6 CHALLENGE FINISHED!

This week I finished the Week 6 challenge early ... the weekend is free, as the new challenge is emailed every Monday! The challenge was RECYCLE. That took some thought. I have a lot of junk, but what could you use for weaving? It came to me when I was putting away laundry. My white sock drawer is jam packed full of old tennis and golf socks!

I started cutting the socks into strips and making balls. I warped my loom with that beautiful warp thread I used on the previous coasters and started making two more coasters with recycled socks! Great idea. The weaving was done so quickly by my using the shedding device again.

Rag Rug Coaster ... Finished!

While watching recorded TV shows this afternoon, I finished the rag rug coaster. It was so scary removing the piece from the top and bottom nails, and then pulling out the side bars. But it held together, so I guess I did it correctly on my first try. I want to visit the local thrift shops for old jeans and denim shirts. Here are photos of the finished piece. I like it and want to start another!

I WANT TO WEAVE!

I've always wanted to weave. My mother had a huge loom in the barn and all her friends from around the community brought her old clothing so that she could cut strips and make rag rugs. I have a couple small looms that I pulled out of the closet and stare at them often. How to start? What to use? I saw this photo and love this small project. A cute little coaster. I think I can do this. I have an old pair of jeans just waiting to be cut up.


Then today I saw this other link and video. The artist makes a loom out of an old piece of lumber and then shows us how she makes a beautiful scarf! Wow! How easy can a little coaster be!
