All went well. I tumbled the finished pieces for an hour or so, and they are now really really shiny and bright. I'm thinking of adding a liver of sulfur patina to a few to see how that would look. It would highlight the images and printing.<br />

It certainly doesn't seem that long ago, but as we all know it...time goes by super fast. My friend Ellinor and I did so much enameling during the summer when the garage was super hot. Now it's super cold (okay, so it's only in the 50's). The next step in my new button-making project is soldering, and that is done in the garage. Brrrr...<br />
<br />
So what inspired this? A couple months ago I read several posts from Kate Richbourg, a well-known metalsmith, and she showed photos of the buttons she was making with used coins. They are beautiful! Check out her website <a href="http://katerichbourgjewelry.com/">katerichbourgjewelry.com</a> So I ordered buttons from a couple suppliers and will show you what I've done so far. Hope this will excite a few of you too!<br />
<br />
Here are a few of the buttons. Pretty grungy looking, aren't they? I wondered if I should anneal them first before doming. I decided just to go ahead... and not go out to the cold garage! It worked out all right, although I'm sure annealing the metal first would make doming easier.<br />

To get ready for soldering, I cleaned the inside of the domed pieces with a rubber Temo tip inserted into my flex shaft. It did a great job.<br />

You can see the difference between the two sides after using the Temo tip. I also made a coil of 16 gauge jump rings and cut them. They will probably need some adjusting and filing to fit the curve of the coin.<br />

You would think I've been a busy girl. Yes and No. September was around the time I had cataract surgery on my right eye. After a few weeks, I had the other eye done. Then I had to wait for new glasses. Before I got the new glasses, I participated in two craft shows. Writing those tiny labels was the hardest thing. But all is well again .... my vision has really improved.<br />
<br />
My friend Drewcilla is an exceptional glass artist. She has been making custom night lights for years, selling them in her Etsy shop. Recently she started using fusible decal paper by Bullseye. She used a black and white printer to transfer the images to the decal paper. The images were then fired on glass, and they fired to a lovely sepia tone. How simple could that be, I thought. I have a black and white printer that I've used many times for etching images on metal, so I was pretty confident it would work. You can imagine my disappointment when I opened the kiln door and saw pieces of glass with NO IMAGES on them! I tried it a second time with the same result. So it was time to buy a new printer! <br />
<br />
After wasting many sheets of the decal paper and getting some technical assistance from Canon, I finally managed to get three successful pieces printed and fired.<br />
<br />

Looking through the many classes and videos I've purchased, I saw one on Craftsy I wanted to try ... "Torch-Fired Enameling: Luscious Color & Design" by Barbara Lewis. I ordered the acrylic enamels in a set of 9 and the decals used in the video. I loved the flower Barbara made ... but I think she used an enlarged version of the decal for the video. I'll ask her if I can order a larger set.<br />
<br />
The first thing I did was copy the sheet of decals and then cut and glued the flowers onto my copper sheet. In the video she used double-sided tape and adhered the decal directly to the copper to saw out the form. Here's a photo of part of the sheet of decals and my cut copper pieces.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2i9oCGn-sXW-OOEoTZ4-igByRF78cBJlwoCwNA5uR1WtP1lAu970gri1tnZfrB-hFzZeeIzMhaqFwvDzHOcH93aEDGP1SeacoGGnClJw6SQHDvoCpKnp6pEypWQxEaPsgZ3NUHT_W7zZj/s1600/1-pcs+and+decals_1983.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2i9oCGn-sXW-OOEoTZ4-igByRF78cBJlwoCwNA5uR1WtP1lAu970gri1tnZfrB-hFzZeeIzMhaqFwvDzHOcH93aEDGP1SeacoGGnClJw6SQHDvoCpKnp6pEypWQxEaPsgZ3NUHT_W7zZj/s320/1-pcs+and+decals_1983.jpg" width="267" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="840" /></a></div><br />
Then I torch fired several coats of white enamel to each copper flower. The next step was to add each flower decal to water until it started to slide off the sheet and then try get it safely onto the copper flower. It got easier. I found if the decal folded, I could slip it back into the water and miraculously it opened up ... so I could try again. Each finished piece was then blotted with paper towels and left to dry.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitCvZleBEZ3TOxAeHvMsCtTfAlDJ96-B5ySpuhopFVpAJ6_23SexVd6euZFZOpP56lvALZtQC7OQ-Cyn7xDpuj0a-ght9P4o5mF4icx_9dkopkjuiVlDIoxFsRqjZ7QF3U2zdVVKqwve3N/s1600/2-decals+on.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitCvZleBEZ3TOxAeHvMsCtTfAlDJ96-B5ySpuhopFVpAJ6_23SexVd6euZFZOpP56lvALZtQC7OQ-Cyn7xDpuj0a-ght9P4o5mF4icx_9dkopkjuiVlDIoxFsRqjZ7QF3U2zdVVKqwve3N/s320/2-decals+on.jpg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="700" /></a></div><br />
Later that day I fired on the decals with my torch until I thought they were done. For some reason I didn't take a photo, but I liked the effect with the sepia tone on the white background. Then I painted each flower with the acrylic enamels, trying to follow her example. Ha. They were left to dry overnight. <br />
<br />
This morning, I torch fired each piece and they aren't bad! They don't look like Barbara's, but I like them. The last step was to add a transparent enamel which gave the pieces a glossy coat. They did improve, but they don't show the lines of the decals. So my enamel was too heavy (not "painterly") or I overfired. Next time. I lost one copper piece back when I fired on the white enamel, so I have three pairs of earrings. What do you think?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQlCba6BHLq7Rlnp4viXgV7lrAy-WvO58Ah4NI_wv7bZJ93tnQGzWLMw8-00JLCY1kGsZOFQEqQJnmacvBxB0ij2Xwz_wK9fNkglCXkxSRRj1Rzu1OeYAH2J8-l_NZSeEzdkhhEI_1h5ta/s1600/4-fired-1991.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQlCba6BHLq7Rlnp4viXgV7lrAy-WvO58Ah4NI_wv7bZJ93tnQGzWLMw8-00JLCY1kGsZOFQEqQJnmacvBxB0ij2Xwz_wK9fNkglCXkxSRRj1Rzu1OeYAH2J8-l_NZSeEzdkhhEI_1h5ta/s320/4-fired-1991.jpg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="700" /></a></div>RoseMarysClayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08383857853240538728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8537198012438963780.post-88738223106034586092018-08-22T11:20:00.000-07:002018-08-22T11:20:34.056-07:00EMBOSSED COPPER NAPKIN RINGSI've made several sets of napkin rings over the years, and this week sold my last pair through Etsy. Usually I have saved notes for various projects, but had none for these. What gauge copper to use? Do I anneal the metal first? Fortunately, I have a file drawer full of scrap copper gathered through the years from our local supplier, Industrial Metals. Bins of small sheets of various gauges that you can buy by the pound.<br />
<br />
I have this very old Vintaj Big Kick machine to use for this project. <br />

The metal piece is placed into an embossing folder and fed through the rollers on the platforms provided with the machine. It's a craftsy-type rolling mill that is usually used for paper and scrapbooking projects. But works well with thinner gauges of metal.<br />

Here's the embossed metal piece. Looks great!!<br />

After rolling out four pieces, I trimmed the corners, sanded the edges, and shaped them around a mandrel using a rawhide hammer. This work hardened the metal.<br />
<br />

I'll make a few more sets with different patterns and then decide whether to patina them with liver of sulfur or leave them this beautiful copper finish. I'll then treat them with a gloss or satin spray to protect the surface.<br />

She is a very good instructor and provides supply lists and videos of each project from start to finish. Her website also has a lot of free videos on various jewelry projects.<br />
<br />
This class was "Mandala Earrings". The earrings were fabricated from sterling silver sheet. She provided a template of the earrings. It was glued to the silver sheet and a jeweler's saw was used to cut out the pattern. Sounds so simple, doesn't it? It was easier than my last post on Lotus Flower Earrings, because the areas to saw were much larger. I've made three pairs so far and am happy to announce I sold one!!!! <br />
<br />
The first pair I made is the one on the left, below. It measures 2-1/2". The smaller pair is 2-1/8". In the class, Leslie soldered a silver ball on each earring tip. The pair I sold was finished that way. I like the earrings either way, probably better without the balls.<br />

Lotus Flowers. These were fun and challenging to make. A pattern of the lotus flower was glued to sterling silver sheet. A hole was drilled in each section I wanted to remove in order to insert the jeweler's saw blade and carefully saw out that section. Then came lots and lots of filing and sanding. Jump rings were soldered on for the ear wires and for the dangling pearls. I really like these earrings. I know my sawing skills improved making these .... and in making the mandala earrings I'll post in a day or two.<br />

No excuses, just a creative slump. I'm sure it happens to everyone. Anyway, since our Southern California weather has been SOOO HOT lately, I've been staying inside and keeping cool. And I've made several pairs of earrings. Here are the three I had time to photograph today and add to my Etsy shop. I love the textures that were achieved using the rolling mill and the richness of the patina. The ear wires are antique copper niobium, which is an alloy that is non-allergic. More to show you in a day or two. I forgot how long it took to photograph, edit and post to Etsy! <br />

ANOTHER NEW BRACELET!!It was a busy weekend ... another new bracelet that I really love. It looks great with any of my leather wrap-arounds, like the one shown. This bracelet is another project from Beadshop.com, called Trail's End. You'll find a list of supplies, a video and Episode Notes. How easy does it get!! Hopefully you'll make one and share your project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMVf8-KyimNmQ3ir3ShCbMrZiq3fkXaO14FwqNJeSg6X6kMtJ8cORvWkWnHA4Szr5tdE-7xtdYmrcnb5KnK0koZGEjU5J9UHjHoMZ34Rz_bzREf350gV1Q2xHiLaYYSy91-7MrEN2lOw1R/s1600/Trail%2527s+End+Bracelet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMVf8-KyimNmQ3ir3ShCbMrZiq3fkXaO14FwqNJeSg6X6kMtJ8cORvWkWnHA4Szr5tdE-7xtdYmrcnb5KnK0koZGEjU5J9UHjHoMZ34Rz_bzREf350gV1Q2xHiLaYYSy91-7MrEN2lOw1R/s320/Trail%2527s+End+Bracelet.jpg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="700" /></a></div>RoseMarysClayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08383857853240538728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8537198012438963780.post-15191482750187814362018-03-24T14:09:00.000-07:002018-03-24T14:17:35.422-07:00WIRE COILED CHAIN AND LAMPWORK BRACELETIt's been so long ... months and months ... since I've posted here. I've been a little under the weather, but finally am feeling better and getting back to the projects I love.<br />
<br />
I just finished a bracelet that was inspired by Kate Richbourg from Beadshop.com. She makes wire work look so easy! If you haven't visited that site, there are tons of projects you'll find under their Projects heading or under Free Tip Friday (10:30 a.m. PST) or Facebook Live (Wednesdays at 10:30 PST). You can watch the broadcasts live on Facebook or later see the videos. It really pays to sign up for their newsletter for great sales. <br />
<br />
Back to the project ... I first wound a coil with 18 gauge wire on a 4mm mandrel until I had 2 inches. Later I had to make more links to get the bracelet to fit. Plus I had a few links you'll never see! This bracelet rolls on. You could also add a clasp if you prefer.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKuAs-yXgPIPZXQs6Rh9NzcUQWcnCfhyphenhyphenfBfqMRM9VIjh2Qmgq0jF9nF0CqiHr85HWAH9lT_1tXNkQD8LAJj0DEIMrwPRKQ3IxMPfReFDmyE2TS0j7Xbqz44lUrRGh4YK1ZaYxyFejnXYLK/s1600/Coils-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKuAs-yXgPIPZXQs6Rh9NzcUQWcnCfhyphenhyphenfBfqMRM9VIjh2Qmgq0jF9nF0CqiHr85HWAH9lT_1tXNkQD8LAJj0DEIMrwPRKQ3IxMPfReFDmyE2TS0j7Xbqz44lUrRGh4YK1ZaYxyFejnXYLK/s320/Coils-1.jpg" width="267" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="840" /></a></div><br />
These coils were then cut and the ends were bent up at a 90-degree angle with flat nose pliers. My first try at this ... not that easy, but not too bad. It would be much easier to use dead soft wire which neither the 18 nor 20 gauge were. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilNlr_8aHQ1WYdgzISIUi4z5CdUs4hNqm_QhQxtX-2QtMi-j5liDg7-T_CtJintjNq6T7uKazTbfmP7N_d0RoTj5-V7K4m614PNVlLN6aAoO_mbG2wp3uRC925Jf_R_wQZsFWjQ6oQdPSz/s1600/Bending+Coils.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilNlr_8aHQ1WYdgzISIUi4z5CdUs4hNqm_QhQxtX-2QtMi-j5liDg7-T_CtJintjNq6T7uKazTbfmP7N_d0RoTj5-V7K4m614PNVlLN6aAoO_mbG2wp3uRC925Jf_R_wQZsFWjQ6oQdPSz/s320/Bending+Coils.jpg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="700" /></a></div><br />
Here are some of the finished coils:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7PIyCT0-Jmx0R5o2m6Jhv8PW8AD3-lgzRntMe04NXke5QKouMWp_MSU4q6KnllJ17DnOoMbjnGc7VSzIjoQ1O5P_FG0E35g3x5StKnau47w3TzqPhPLH_u52HXl1Gya-1nRETMKNREHI_/s1600/finished+coils.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7PIyCT0-Jmx0R5o2m6Jhv8PW8AD3-lgzRntMe04NXke5QKouMWp_MSU4q6KnllJ17DnOoMbjnGc7VSzIjoQ1O5P_FG0E35g3x5StKnau47w3TzqPhPLH_u52HXl1Gya-1nRETMKNREHI_/s320/finished+coils.jpg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="700" /></a></div><br />
Next, I selected some of my own lampwork beads and made loops on each side of the bead with 20 gauge wire. These loops were then attached to the coiled links. Here is the finished bracelet.<br />

The challenge was RECYCLE. That took some thought. I have a lot of junk, but what could you use for weaving? It came to me when I was putting away laundry. My white sock drawer is jam packed full of old tennis and golf socks! <br />
<br />
I started cutting the socks into strips and making balls. I warped my loom with that beautiful warp thread I used on the previous coasters and started making two more coasters with recycled socks! Great idea. The weaving was done so quickly by my using the shedding device again. <br />

The challenge was GIVE. Make something, give it to someone or just leave it somewhere for someone to find! I was able to make two tapestry holiday tree ornaments on the warp on my loom ... and love them! I still have the second one to finish. Weaving was easy ... but finishing took some time. Hand stitching a piece of ultra-suede to the back, then sewing the tiny little seed beads three at a time to the edges. Then decorating the tree with the larger beads ... and finally attaching the hanger made with the tiny seed beads. Whew!<br />

It's beautiful. I have the option of sewing tiny seed beads to the edges, but I don't think I will ... it is finished. I love the clasp.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY8nNes61r2q3EwZjecBiVrMf6y0qr0thSvsJRa1PO6a2bQfGk1CE_WdEq3eU8e28-gL-26JNUsZT4N5g_q1tmzzIRn6VM8oLaD7hNuervzkhR96JMY37WsJj0AfKFei-Ao6K8mjqAq7Kb/s1600/BracClaspFinished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY8nNes61r2q3EwZjecBiVrMf6y0qr0thSvsJRa1PO6a2bQfGk1CE_WdEq3eU8e28-gL-26JNUsZT4N5g_q1tmzzIRn6VM8oLaD7hNuervzkhR96JMY37WsJj0AfKFei-Ao6K8mjqAq7Kb/s320/BracClaspFinished.jpg" width="320" height="160" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="800" /></a></div><br />
The challenge for week 3 was to weave with a new material. I had seen a wonderful coaster that was made in one of the Mirrix Looms weave-alongs, so that was my project. I bought fabric and tore it into one-inch strips. My other challenge was to install the shedding device onto my loom. It started with my making my own heddles. Those are the white strings you see in the photo below. I did a happy dance after attaching the handle to the shedding device and everything worked. No longer did I have to go over and under every thread. Magic!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwjF5qZIkLngZW7NsiwKnxdiJbVmvGTy_M8Lny8bSzZtB_RiWtRmPPGu6w4Eee9QWGuWguO5iDHZF710Dierw0ewWQHOyXfhMyZW0lgrC2CrtP7lN1_4lEy9V1xfttOgQov1frcKwX2M3c/s1600/Coasters-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwjF5qZIkLngZW7NsiwKnxdiJbVmvGTy_M8Lny8bSzZtB_RiWtRmPPGu6w4Eee9QWGuWguO5iDHZF710Dierw0ewWQHOyXfhMyZW0lgrC2CrtP7lN1_4lEy9V1xfttOgQov1frcKwX2M3c/s320/Coasters-1.jpg" width="240" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="933" /></a></div><br />
I finished one coaster and will now advance the weaving to the back so I can make another one on the same warp threads. It's pretty rustic looking, but I kind of like it! I think next time I'll use thinner strips. The edges don't look that great, but maybe you get better with experience. Also more experience is needed in ending and adding a new color. Maybe stitching the two ends together first ... ?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSpU9Ft04IFewE2N4vR9X-Yz7Y-OS9qAL8Ks2hPhQYXkajqz_Rqqc58VToWB7ZWNNfcPrhrrnxgy9rfvaCdmwSBF8frmzZOn0kdyR10PxiAhUTeVdBmBdXHA6HRbFc-HWYCoSxysT-3QD3/s1600/Coasters-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSpU9Ft04IFewE2N4vR9X-Yz7Y-OS9qAL8Ks2hPhQYXkajqz_Rqqc58VToWB7ZWNNfcPrhrrnxgy9rfvaCdmwSBF8frmzZOn0kdyR10PxiAhUTeVdBmBdXHA6HRbFc-HWYCoSxysT-3QD3/s320/Coasters-2.jpg" width="240" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="933" /></a></div><br />
I've taken the weaving off the loom. Now I have to tie and cut the ends. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaMrGthiURPlqL0ts8-DyrOiSCvenXnqv9z9CPiumg4LZYZ1LYVUzi5WtANmRdLq9NPw5lkZoUcDgwcwuWJ3t92oi-t-mO_9tHXILo2UWiMl45WmTnHk8o0RVYUnK_LahiQAMPSfBQrnyx/s1600/Coasters-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaMrGthiURPlqL0ts8-DyrOiSCvenXnqv9z9CPiumg4LZYZ1LYVUzi5WtANmRdLq9NPw5lkZoUcDgwcwuWJ3t92oi-t-mO_9tHXILo2UWiMl45WmTnHk8o0RVYUnK_LahiQAMPSfBQrnyx/s320/Coasters-3.jpg" width="224" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="999" /></a></div><br />
Finally this afternoon I finished! And just in time, as we get a new challenge tomorrow morning. I'll try one out tonight with my drink and see how I like it!<br />

I wanted to make the second bracelet in the Queen Nefertiti kit I had purchased quite a while ago. The first week's challenge was to take your loom to a different spot to weave. Since I was using very very very tiny seed beads (with seven colors in their separate piles), I knew I had to choose a spot with a table and very good lighting. So I carefully took my loom, beads, needle and thread .... and glasses and clip-on magnifier .... out to a table on the patio. Oh, and also my iPad which had the pattern to follow! Early morning quiet with just birds and the sound of falling water in the fountain. Very nice. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyXPcWFGUgXbcMeShQFE5HrC32yBPs9hFF-B1w3YbR_maf3v_qmBoXLK-gd1etrjQygc0VoNA3oob7DiAqbC4wgzkEX7j67qPOnXNn45VBGVwaC0RqNpPWPF8wouBFoiupvId_OsU1b8dD/s1600/QNeff-outside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyXPcWFGUgXbcMeShQFE5HrC32yBPs9hFF-B1w3YbR_maf3v_qmBoXLK-gd1etrjQygc0VoNA3oob7DiAqbC4wgzkEX7j67qPOnXNn45VBGVwaC0RqNpPWPF8wouBFoiupvId_OsU1b8dD/s320/QNeff-outside.jpg" width="240" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="933" /></a></div><br />
The second week's challenge was to take the time to weave every day. That was not too difficult for me. I like weaving in the early morning. And this week I wove and listened to Wimbledon! This morning I was able to finish. It measures 6-1/2" and will shrink slightly when taken off the loom. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjExgOHNZyllBe7zePFxFklHQkXDQkxpG4EAuT1VJUULAhu5YZ8WhmahnA65g6sb9PXi0Qse3f0M_Afl37KuR2bCQp0u1rXE2JPxlgRm2QzdSVP9hxpEhIwH5-8Nj0hah1mdV8huIxkQAu9/s1600/BraceletDone.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjExgOHNZyllBe7zePFxFklHQkXDQkxpG4EAuT1VJUULAhu5YZ8WhmahnA65g6sb9PXi0Qse3f0M_Afl37KuR2bCQp0u1rXE2JPxlgRm2QzdSVP9hxpEhIwH5-8Nj0hah1mdV8huIxkQAu9/s320/BraceletDone.jpg" width="160" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="1400" /></a></div><br />
Here, the weaving is off the loom and I'll let it "rest" overnight. Tomorrow I can knot and cut the ends, and then attach the beautiful clasp.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb4sD4nKIq63mJZZ8VAvTpq-3r8yEeC78u5bxVPUlhEdL3qUgl3LtbDBsIZGMWirSLwy76K9PYaG_0KREJw_iNGgNNZ9vxMyRLGPModb-k2sEoOwT0VXUbltosuJOpY8NX9w6K4VnTzCw9/s1600/BracOffLoom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb4sD4nKIq63mJZZ8VAvTpq-3r8yEeC78u5bxVPUlhEdL3qUgl3LtbDBsIZGMWirSLwy76K9PYaG_0KREJw_iNGgNNZ9vxMyRLGPModb-k2sEoOwT0VXUbltosuJOpY8NX9w6K4VnTzCw9/s320/BracOffLoom.jpg" width="160" height="320" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="1400" /></a></div><br />
Also tomorrow ... every Monday ... we will receive our new challenge for the week! FINISHED!I'm doing a happy dance, as I finished the tapestry bracelet and attached the button this morning! I love the black edge the seed beads created. ContinuedI just finished 7" and took my bracelet off the loom! It was so relaxing and fun to do. The Mirrix loom is just the best. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhucQeNfgA9P66aNlKE6eflCJc8eKEGFZJAmz8I31tLJ2PRlYd-3FvpKo8OIWf0Hvj0R8-VExgOzreXG22FDN7hjbunKhZglrj91WoTv5QvoTtcOSL2XCn7u0Yf4C8hn3yzedaDuYTnN6Th/s1600/Bracelet-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhucQeNfgA9P66aNlKE6eflCJc8eKEGFZJAmz8I31tLJ2PRlYd-3FvpKo8OIWf0Hvj0R8-VExgOzreXG22FDN7hjbunKhZglrj91WoTv5QvoTtcOSL2XCn7u0Yf4C8hn3yzedaDuYTnN6Th/s320/Bracelet-4.jpg" width="320" height="160" data-original-width="700" data-original-height="350" /></a></div><br />
This bad boy now needs a haircut! Then the next step is to cut the black ultra suede the bracelet is sitting on. It needs a tiny edge to stitch to the weaving. After that 16/0 seed beads are stitched around all edges, three seed beads to every stitch. I wonder how long that will take?!!! A loop and button are sewn on for the closure.<br />
<br />
Look for my next post to see the finished bracelet!!!!! I'll be doing a happy dance, for sure.RoseMarysClayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08383857853240538728noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8537198012438963780.post-61584949496241317852017-06-25T13:21:00.000-07:002017-06-25T13:21:31.960-07:00MIRRIX LOOM WEAVE-ALONG #24Wow, it's been so long since I posted here! Let me tell you, I've been busy. Completing more of those unfinished pieces, mostly bracelets. As soon as I have time to take photos and get a few into my Etsy shop, I'll show you what I've made. I'm trying to build up my inventory and hopefully do well during the upcoming holiday sales.<br />
<br />
Right now I'm participating in a Mirrix Loom weave-along to make a tapestry bracelet. I've done a few on my loom in the past with seed beads, but this one teaches you several new techniques: <b>Slit Tapestry</b> where you weave two different color threads in opposite directions creating a straight line where they meet; <b>Pick and Pick</b> creating stripes with two different color threads. The concept is easy, but it's so tricky to do correctly! <b>Wavy Lines</b> weaving one thread color back and forth once, then repeating with a second color.<br />
<br />
Here's what I've done so far. This is about 2-1/2 inches, and I need to weave 7 inches. Then we have to stitch a piece of ultra-suede to the back, which covers all the ends sticking out, sew 16/0 (Yikes!) seed beads along all edges, and add a loop and button for the closure. Who knew weaving could be so much fun. My next project will be making coasters out of strips of material. There was a Mirrix Loom weave-long a while ago that has my perfect project .... can't wait to try it.<br />

Does anyone else have that same problem? So that's my goal for the next few days. Yesterday I smelled up my kitchen with liver of sulphur and added patina to my copper pieces. Today I'm working on ear wires. Only two pairs of earrings done ... quite a few to go ...<br />
<br />
My finished earrings .... These were made with skeleton leaves run through the rolling mill.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc3V4-EnemLXhWG8DuFxvKD2OE_O-fUNmWM7ByciMhpkMXplIzs6l7FuwGXw-3k_HzGRvH8tpBYAINAe5u53t9BOhu0VybDDhdkSDOl_Oub-dwPVFJxOEQTiEr9Cv0V3MeIUn8syEQGYXw/s1600/DSC_499-0061.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc3V4-EnemLXhWG8DuFxvKD2OE_O-fUNmWM7ByciMhpkMXplIzs6l7FuwGXw-3k_HzGRvH8tpBYAINAe5u53t9BOhu0VybDDhdkSDOl_Oub-dwPVFJxOEQTiEr9Cv0V3MeIUn8syEQGYXw/s320/DSC_499-0061.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div>These were textured using a brass plate run through the rolling mill.<br />

They need chains. And a few very cute hoops that were stretched using the rolling mill. They will turn into earrings, maybe with some dangles.<br />

It's a double-wrap bracelet and has a great feather slider that fits over both leather straps. And I love that SW design magnetic clasp and the rest of the sliders. It fits a 6-7 inch wrist. A definite winner!<br />

I'm using it today in my raku firing experiment! I made several clay whistles and small heart pendants several years ago and they have been sitting around, collectimg dust, waiting for me to fire them. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgR51o_E3RONypte8nmagR4JobX4cZi7a8M1gdivySHc8h7kq07tYtbwrxuPjscqBfiBXMv_KdehpC6HqeR0C1zSEdM3ZXqZ1bkOLl08epyhQH0aT8ouEQxuSmajDCn78xKRqHWi5RSKgq/s1600/IMG_1-0594.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgR51o_E3RONypte8nmagR4JobX4cZi7a8M1gdivySHc8h7kq07tYtbwrxuPjscqBfiBXMv_KdehpC6HqeR0C1zSEdM3ZXqZ1bkOLl08epyhQH0aT8ouEQxuSmajDCn78xKRqHWi5RSKgq/s320/IMG_1-0594.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
My smaller gas kiln outside that I use for raku seemed like an overkill for these small pieces. But my biggest hesitation/delay was making a cage for firing. I've made cages before using metal parts, nuts and bolts from the hardware store, and they lasted a few firings. This kiln is so small, I could not find the right pieces.<br />
<br />
My friend Ellinor visited a couple days ago. We always share our latest projects and ideas, and it's always so much fun to visit each other. Well, she had the GREATEST idea for my "cage"!!!!! If you do any enameling, you probably have the square heavy-duty steel trivet. It was a bit too wide for my narrow kiln. It just fit, but would have been a bit tricky to lift out of the kiln without hitting the sides ..... and the cut-off part that you see in one of the photos below. I used the Sawszall with a metal blade to cut it a bit narrower. Then twisted a couple pieces of high temp nichrome wire to use for the handles. It's perfect! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmUOrZm38wK2g4Pd49YMaCBYb2EGZDxQTTw27jSfTZmMT6nixSJILlVhpSxr0yNr7agyf5wLT-dE2DoV0Bty9yZVz8pKimmQwaONOT_IHEHXyTHYNUmOr5zHHOwLypNwNv2AsDZEZChr3j/s1600/IMG_0604-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmUOrZm38wK2g4Pd49YMaCBYb2EGZDxQTTw27jSfTZmMT6nixSJILlVhpSxr0yNr7agyf5wLT-dE2DoV0Bty9yZVz8pKimmQwaONOT_IHEHXyTHYNUmOr5zHHOwLypNwNv2AsDZEZChr3j/s320/IMG_0604-4.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
I glazed everything yesterday and am firing as I type this. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSq8eSTB8S_vJ39SGnW0ZW50OmNFzdqIeC6xgTxZG7dTx3pPzrjaZW789jWPTZeJ20zrsKth8aObYu9-HX3dYkF_qIBfNIkHQ4Q2oS9qt42V0p23O64ZV5KNxJbxjxQND29HfwchCc9y-/s1600/IMG_0598-3_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSq8eSTB8S_vJ39SGnW0ZW50OmNFzdqIeC6xgTxZG7dTx3pPzrjaZW789jWPTZeJ20zrsKth8aObYu9-HX3dYkF_qIBfNIkHQ4Q2oS9qt42V0p23O64ZV5KNxJbxjxQND29HfwchCc9y-/s320/IMG_0598-3_edited-1.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
Here are my first pieces in the kiln.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf5Aic9dpchU_8uV4impGUN1Rc_5b4x7CkyQ_1_hZXi_3hLGrN3-db3FC-yYHf1oIwio3ikVuF5nBx3LEzyD2_frqf_NNS9f3Mb6DzTNivuufixBqpi2LKqk4rA0bO-ZMVvzNgSBoKg0sz/s1600/IMG_0607-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf5Aic9dpchU_8uV4impGUN1Rc_5b4x7CkyQ_1_hZXi_3hLGrN3-db3FC-yYHf1oIwio3ikVuF5nBx3LEzyD2_frqf_NNS9f3Mb6DzTNivuufixBqpi2LKqk4rA0bO-ZMVvzNgSBoKg0sz/s320/IMG_0607-5.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
The first firing. The pendants had a little red, but no reds on the whistles.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLVP1zY2KfkJVBCvQC-JqeqoQMVoZiotwHErjTv067bTgzovu5TjuxLHK040gggkKPCPAmJiVbDcZ5iEFgIym2Ie2-FwCNZfVgNsULEohyphenhyphenn4zNLHx9qBD_8Ux3L7V7PQqKwfOA6yDNuwL_/s1600/IMG_0608-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLVP1zY2KfkJVBCvQC-JqeqoQMVoZiotwHErjTv067bTgzovu5TjuxLHK040gggkKPCPAmJiVbDcZ5iEFgIym2Ie2-FwCNZfVgNsULEohyphenhyphenn4zNLHx9qBD_8Ux3L7V7PQqKwfOA6yDNuwL_/s320/IMG_0608-6.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
The second firing. Still no reds. Darn!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdLMAoQ3Xx-FkyuOY_XlcHEmO9gGo3ybdJJ0olhD9P7KQHHBGXSTxy-R0QRCuQRLv2ZIWg_yNsDIhwnawlT6MuEhDK04Zyq_lzFDTx85WjvunsncEzz8k1wtib8pLQgRjiDtw6Ket5PY5D/s1600/IMG_0618-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdLMAoQ3Xx-FkyuOY_XlcHEmO9gGo3ybdJJ0olhD9P7KQHHBGXSTxy-R0QRCuQRLv2ZIWg_yNsDIhwnawlT6MuEhDK04Zyq_lzFDTx85WjvunsncEzz8k1wtib8pLQgRjiDtw6Ket5PY5D/s320/IMG_0618-7.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
The third firing. The pendants had a little color, especially the copper wire, but none on the pendant. Everything looks good, the backs are nice and black like they should be. Just kind of disappointing to not have the reds. Maybe the glaze is too old ... and it IS old. Maybe adding a little touch of copper carbonate? I might try that ... then brush a little more glaze on a few whistles and try again tomorrow. If I succeed, you'll be the first to know!! One good thing is that the enameling trivet and nichrome wire "cage" worked so well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZXDBS392YzCBIVuBiCjeBCtLvbBlfh9wf3buZ0YqA52MwzOgtgRNniLq3NJiKdVXv6T1lXQfk71bDe6Xmp3j-0QlYA7RgoNAbZuI-1GtGVA1nJtV0FpPUZWW23OxK3gW0bAvxVUHyX2B/s1600/IMG_0629-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZXDBS392YzCBIVuBiCjeBCtLvbBlfh9wf3buZ0YqA52MwzOgtgRNniLq3NJiKdVXv6T1lXQfk71bDe6Xmp3j-0QlYA7RgoNAbZuI-1GtGVA1nJtV0FpPUZWW23OxK3gW0bAvxVUHyX2B/s320/IMG_0629-8.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />

We went through an unbelievable period (weeks!) of rain and cold weather ... and this is Southern California??!!!! Now it's unusual to see no rain predicted for the next week or two. I finally turned on the sprinklers. <br />
<br />
During that time I found myself working inside finishing old projects, weaving, and making a few new leather wrap bracelets. I love them! <br />
<br />
Here are a few I just listed in my Etsy shop. This is one of the first leather bracelets I made for myself that I wear just about every day! I love it. Isn't the magnetic clasp wonderful?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJCDdnFb0VyDrGyOrAuV0V5PQJ0wHFCYFcGmZS9fZmeXIzNx75gr0ZicSc4cExfb-dnYRw5liW94kx2mvTNesMW6Mii0Ig4bYZ6s6UUfB_BggJ24ulIMoq_42ay0_O8wTANGWXICHBIOs/s1600/DSC_495-0092.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJCDdnFb0VyDrGyOrAuV0V5PQJ0wHFCYFcGmZS9fZmeXIzNx75gr0ZicSc4cExfb-dnYRw5liW94kx2mvTNesMW6Mii0Ig4bYZ6s6UUfB_BggJ24ulIMoq_42ay0_O8wTANGWXICHBIOs/s320/DSC_495-0092.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
This one is made with the same Spanish light brown leather that is my favorite ... with heart sliders. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpzq8ONYVp05KHde2sJd_l9x-9_WmOQMDFDN5CP0AieZy5hrCorXIfqFgAM70OTA6Bf_EUGzOpQ53WkDd53IPGzw1zOLyvpXLvbUFTVuuQSoaNA0aUrc6bzXWhaS8KjI6TK8-E7lyG8mKz/s1600/DSC_494-0099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpzq8ONYVp05KHde2sJd_l9x-9_WmOQMDFDN5CP0AieZy5hrCorXIfqFgAM70OTA6Bf_EUGzOpQ53WkDd53IPGzw1zOLyvpXLvbUFTVuuQSoaNA0aUrc6bzXWhaS8KjI6TK8-E7lyG8mKz/s320/DSC_494-0099.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
This leather is a bit darker with 2mm silver studs. It has a Southwestern feel with the great feather and magnetic clasp.<br />

My go-to bread is the simple artisan bread that you make in a Dutch oven ... So easy and wonderful, like this one: <a href="http://www.jocooks.com/bakery/breads/crusty-bread/">http://www.jocooks.com/bakery/breads/crusty-bread/</a> <br />
<br />
A local bakery makes a wonderful Black Forest bread like my mother used to make. She also made Swedish Limpa. Every time I go to the market, I look for rye flour so I can be ready, but my favorite store never has it. Yesterday I went to Sprout's Market and was excited to find dark rye flour. So this morning I made Swedish Limpa for the first time. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZA8yede7DpgJXLzV6VT7f8fO8XGyUzb3Ybe_AY4yktwc2nSqDhGqSWiVJljZ9F0uLrNZRe4fXEA1A1VIIjaVus8D7mRpn0YY8Hc7UCtQPp-i4nJTaXwAdZm-1Co0utUqE0OC56og2F2jl/s1600/Limpa-4-.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZA8yede7DpgJXLzV6VT7f8fO8XGyUzb3Ybe_AY4yktwc2nSqDhGqSWiVJljZ9F0uLrNZRe4fXEA1A1VIIjaVus8D7mRpn0YY8Hc7UCtQPp-i4nJTaXwAdZm-1Co0utUqE0OC56og2F2jl/s320/Limpa-4-.jpg" width="240" height="320" /></a></div><br />
Instead of using my Kitchenaid mixer and the dough hook, I decided to follow the recipe and mix and knead by hand. Luckily my right shoulder has somewhat healed! It's a messy business. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg80tt1ZHfnlV3ZhniXkrBBALkz-FJ_NkB2lz1N7CIe1zqiOGSp8KVWwqwc5V5nxeQ-ZjkwTkk-lrjD2FfM1ow7-tX1NzbEEMXU-mBtPJLXgtVgjN6liJoH9gDTzwgncWAVswGsE8vdqKQP/s1600/Limpa-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg80tt1ZHfnlV3ZhniXkrBBALkz-FJ_NkB2lz1N7CIe1zqiOGSp8KVWwqwc5V5nxeQ-ZjkwTkk-lrjD2FfM1ow7-tX1NzbEEMXU-mBtPJLXgtVgjN6liJoH9gDTzwgncWAVswGsE8vdqKQP/s320/Limpa-1.jpg" width="240" height="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjayk7UFecP2S9JtdAZYl4XWWiOFLTCNFstuOLgzJzIaSuY9HpXTZro0I6a_-sj7qmCj9LCP0Dz7qsq0Gwh1FaEUaVf9VHFRX_EDpgKXmQjbV8JcpYipWPI72DfxIWnqdPhYzb1phHcZEpO/s1600/Limpa-2_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjayk7UFecP2S9JtdAZYl4XWWiOFLTCNFstuOLgzJzIaSuY9HpXTZro0I6a_-sj7qmCj9LCP0Dz7qsq0Gwh1FaEUaVf9VHFRX_EDpgKXmQjbV8JcpYipWPI72DfxIWnqdPhYzb1phHcZEpO/s320/Limpa-2_edited-1.jpg" width="240" height="320" /></a></div><br />
But I did get through the kneading part, and got the dough into the greased bowl to rise. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVf6D-pkdpcCwjUBW4AoLC0TxkMUDCHzd1znJP6j7VSLpC9WKrCDY4QDTCY-D817gRMIiNk3XlRzrFlWMp8N5HKxC0ek3dAHnTslgChHFWnKSkesVNu93YyzGr6dsCB7sB0YTgMk7F255d/s1600/Limpa-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVf6D-pkdpcCwjUBW4AoLC0TxkMUDCHzd1znJP6j7VSLpC9WKrCDY4QDTCY-D817gRMIiNk3XlRzrFlWMp8N5HKxC0ek3dAHnTslgChHFWnKSkesVNu93YyzGr6dsCB7sB0YTgMk7F255d/s320/Limpa-3.jpg" width="240" height="320" /></a></div><br />
After punching it down and transferring to a pan to rise again, it baked and cooled for a very short time before I sliced it in half. It smells so good. And tastes wonderful! The outside is so crusty, the inside so tender ..... You can definitely taste the orange zest. It's on the sweet side and I love the flavor of the fennel and caraway seeds. This bread is a winner. I'll try my mixer and dough hook the next time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFbgH4Pl8mRhcBKYpBqSzyCZQ1YB1jIw318WEoPphZt_l7ie-wH_3bTlCeZLJ4PIHydxXs4lFUWJPvlpmGzenqFaEkCZaUpmN_DFja6GAO4DajD8ALshs8kbr0enEfUZoIcIog3ze6rIuA/s1600/Limpa-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFbgH4Pl8mRhcBKYpBqSzyCZQ1YB1jIw318WEoPphZt_l7ie-wH_3bTlCeZLJ4PIHydxXs4lFUWJPvlpmGzenqFaEkCZaUpmN_DFja6GAO4DajD8ALshs8kbr0enEfUZoIcIog3ze6rIuA/s320/Limpa-5.jpg" width="240" height="320" /></a></div><br />
Unfortunately my printed recipe does not have a website link, as I had to reduce it in size and screen print it. But, just for you, I will retype it. <br />
<br />
SWEDISH LIMPA BREAD<br />
Hand mix:<br />
1 package (2-1/4 tsp.) active dry yeast<br />
1 tsp. sugar<br />
1 tbsp. warm tap water<br />
<br />
1-1/4 cups warm tap water<br />
1 tbsp. soft butter<br />
1/2 tbsp. table salt<br />
1/4 cup honey<br />
1/4 cup brown sugar<br />
2 tbsp. fennel seed<br />
1/2 tsp. caraway seed<br />
Zest of one orange<br />
1-1/2 cups bread flour<br />
1-1/2 cups rye flour<br />
Up to about 1 more cup flour, as needed<br />
Butter<br />
<br />
In small bowl, proof yeast with sugar and 1 tbsp. warm water. (If it doesn't bubble up, the yeast is dead and you'll need to repeat this step with new yeast.)<br />
<br />
In a large mixing bowl, mix water, 1 tbsp. butter, salt, honey, brown sugar, fennel, caraway and orange zest with wooden spoon. Gently stir in 1 cup flour and proofed yeast. Add remaining bread flour and rye flour until combined, then knead for 5 minutes, adding bread flour as needed.<br />
<br />
Transfer to greased bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place til double. With a fist, gently deflate the dough. Form into a round loaf, transfer to a greased loaf pan, cover and let rise in a warm place until double.<br />
<br />
Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Bake loaf for 35-45 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes, remove from pan, brush top with butter, finish cooling.<br />

One good thing is that we've had so much rain in the past few weeks and it looks like more at the end of next week. <br />
<br />
Anyway .... I just finished this bracelet that has two strips of leather and beautiful sliders. It wraps around the wrist twice. I love this bracelet. I love the magnetic clasp. It's called "Trail Ride", and you can order the supplies from <a href="https://www.beadshop.com">https://www.beadshop.com</a>. (Find the project under Projects, then Prairie Leather Wrap, then Trail Ride). <br />
<br />
This shop has a live Wednesday morning Facebook broadcast with a different project each week. It's hosted by the owner, Janice Parsons, and someone you probably know, Kate Richbourg. I should say, Kate will be at the upcoming bead show in Tucson, so she will be live from there Sunday the 29th at 10:30 a.m. PST (instead of next Wednesday). I really should stop watching their broadcasts, as it has become rather expensive! I must tell you, Beadship.com has the BEST customer service. They are called the "Customer Happiness Team".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF4rLJJdVlVwoCg8JmhGy0Q1OEyIEjDDLoFK2VqSCAXWKkWgJJXM8nJhwbsQbUJZ57Uq-Xei-wQ9ZkhfCIw6NWZR92UM0GFVc633-JDbiOavfNSxrHPlQui6ya9iytcSbC6mfkVgcOkZN7/s1600/LeatherSliderBracelet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF4rLJJdVlVwoCg8JmhGy0Q1OEyIEjDDLoFK2VqSCAXWKkWgJJXM8nJhwbsQbUJZ57Uq-Xei-wQ9ZkhfCIw6NWZR92UM0GFVc633-JDbiOavfNSxrHPlQui6ya9iytcSbC6mfkVgcOkZN7/s320/LeatherSliderBracelet.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
Then there's the other bracelet I finished on my new loom a few days ago. This one is a bracelet kit from <a href="http://www.mirrixlooms.com">http://www.mirrixlooms.com</a> called "Queen Nefertiti". Actually, the kit makes two bracelets, one 1" wide and the other 3/4" wide. It uses 11/0 delica beads. Crazy??? Yes! My daughter could not believe I was making it. The instructions were great, the beads labeled A, B, C, D, E and F. So I had six piles with a sticker label for each. I enlarged the pattern on my iPad and followed it row by row. There were about 74 rows! And now you know I AM crazy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWxGIsn1YwGBHVzCDnnGAJbFHyqYTExKfMioeRll8qP2UWJCYt83mJWl8RGoixajVTrforcgMg4VRrAl5YX6w0JgP2y25O4WW_mcdP5NSkaqblPtHJv-_qZDKHucvPuULjXcu5M1L2S-QV/s1600/QueenNefertitiBracelet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWxGIsn1YwGBHVzCDnnGAJbFHyqYTExKfMioeRll8qP2UWJCYt83mJWl8RGoixajVTrforcgMg4VRrAl5YX6w0JgP2y25O4WW_mcdP5NSkaqblPtHJv-_qZDKHucvPuULjXcu5M1L2S-QV/s320/QueenNefertitiBracelet.jpg" width="320" height="320" /></a></div><br />
I have to decide if I want to leave the bracelet like it is or weave beads on the edges like the photo below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHz_ON5fGsEb-To4jZBHJhToZ1UbEC5CiJQE8TQARcmY7EMw0pC-ysdpCP1ibHquzLSYGKrVSl8As8CNzET0df55dDDgeU_CSg-JZEIhVCxWn_v2M1fmnDbdPWSnrn5u3dDHqo1wfqFu8A/s1600/QueenNef-finished.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHz_ON5fGsEb-To4jZBHJhToZ1UbEC5CiJQE8TQARcmY7EMw0pC-ysdpCP1ibHquzLSYGKrVSl8As8CNzET0df55dDDgeU_CSg-JZEIhVCxWn_v2M1fmnDbdPWSnrn5u3dDHqo1wfqFu8A/s320/QueenNef-finished.jpg" width="320" height="259" /></a></div>RoseMarysClayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08383857853240538728noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8537198012438963780.post-32172916674551607312017-01-02T17:29:00.001-08:002017-01-02T17:29:23.401-08:00HAPPY NEW YEAR!A little late, but I wish you a wonderful year ahead! Stay healthy ... don't trip over your dog like I did last year on New Year's Day. I'm so thankful to be back to working on projects again and being active. <br />
<br />
My new Mirrix loom has been a JOY! I just finished this wrapped bracelet made with seed beads. It's about 1/2" wide and 14" long and wraps around the wrist twice. I tried to take a photo of it wrapped around my wrist, but that wasn't possible! But I love it! I added a few of my own lampwork beads at the ends.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSukQrZazHiAL6zWoeSiM1qeohV9RvSjIg-gThTmWuKl_KVKWNlfQcxP7A5tdO-UavHah1zngCGTPNPlJ9yH9vNmnb3O9O2lstyTLz4Dt-BEMIjLrLqfQe3ab7V_c0GG2ZZRLmoNVN29E9/s1600/DSC_0033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSukQrZazHiAL6zWoeSiM1qeohV9RvSjIg-gThTmWuKl_KVKWNlfQcxP7A5tdO-UavHah1zngCGTPNPlJ9yH9vNmnb3O9O2lstyTLz4Dt-BEMIjLrLqfQe3ab7V_c0GG2ZZRLmoNVN29E9/s320/DSC_0033.jpg" width="320" height="267" /></a></div><br />
I showed you the first tapestry and bead bracelet I made in my post a few weeks ago. I've worn it many times, and it has received many OOOHs and AAAHs. Here are a few more similar ones made with the dyed silk thread ... I just listed them in my Etsy shop. There will be a loud scream and wonderful celebration if one ever sells!<br />
<br />

Now I need to get back to my Cowboys and Indians jewelry class with Leslie Kail Villarreal which ends in a couple weeks. It focuses on using metal stamps and creating individual components that can be attached to each other, creating a beautiful necklace. Here is one of her examples. I'm not sure how mine will look, but am waiting for more metal stamps that are not available now. And am also waiting for warmer weather to work out in the garage! Need to use my hydraulic press, as well as a 3 lb. hammer and a solid working surface. <br />

I never wanted to make anything THAT size and certainly don't have an extra room ... which you'd need for a loom that size! But over the years I've made small pieces, like mug rugs, coasters, and, as shown in a recent post, woven pendants.<br />
<br />
A few months ago I purchased a class from Craftsy called <i>Bead & Tapestry Cuff with Claudia Chase</i> .... and was hooked! I dreamt about the Mirrix loom she was using, but the cost was just a little (a LOT!) on the high side. Incidentally, Claudia Chase is the founder of Mirrix Looms and her story of starting the company is interesting ... if you have time to go to their website and browse.<br />
<br />
Anyway, on the past Black Friday weekend they had a sale and Rose Mary ordered her 12" Little Guy Mirrix Loom! It arrived a few days ago. I first had to do all the errands on my list so I would have uninterrupted days to explore my early Christmas gift! Yesterday I started viewing the videos again for warping the loom. It took several tries, but I finally understood the method. Anything is easy when you do it correctly!<br />
<br />
So late last night I took a few photos of my project. Here is the loom shown full size with my "affinity" bracelet. The bracelet is 3/4" wide and I'll weave until it's 4-1/2" long. I have an inch to go! The loom looks huge, doesn't it, compared to the bracelet? But it's only 11-1/2" wide and 17-1/2" high.<br />

I have a choice of keeping the warp ends long. And after finishing the threads by braiding and knotting, you can tie it on your wrist or weave a peyote slider that goes on the long cords and slides to loosen or tighten the bracelet .... OR .... I could weave it longer to fit my wrist .... OR ...... <br />
<br />
Here's another photo of the first bracelet I made after viewing the Craftsy video.<br />

It was made on a Jewel Loom. I tried to make the peyote slider with 11/0 seed beads, but found it just tooooo frustrating. Claudia Chase said the first two rows are the most difficult ... and I never got past that point, but will try again. Maybe today. For this bracelet, I finished the bracelet by knotting the threads close to the beads at both ends, cutting the threads, then applying glue to both ends and finally attaching the metal links. Then I added the chain extender and lobster clasp. I love this bracelet. However, I noticed when wearing it that some of my thread ends are showing. I think it is because there wasn't enough tension on the loom. We'll see how this next one turns out, as the warp threads could be strummed like a banjo before I started! According to the video, after taking the bracelet off the loom and letting it relax for a bit, it should shrink about a half inch .... that will definitely make it more difficult for those ends to loosen! <br />
<br />
I debated about which loom to buy ... the 12" or 16" loom. There are smaller ones and larger ones. This 12" will weave 9" across and 24" long, which is plenty big for any of my projects. The great thing is, I could weave a bracelet on the left side and the right side at the same time! Maybe another one down the middle!
